Trump suggests disinfectants to be a cure of covid19
He said that he was just playing a trick on reporters.
After releasing a statement in which he suggests
disinfectants can be injected so as to cure coronavirus, something which
brought him a national criticism. In Maryland the state’s emergency management
agency issued a warning that no disinfectant should be used as a treat under no
condition, the state of Washington as well urged people not to use laundry
detergents.
“Injecting bleach or highly concentrated rubbing alcohol
causes massive organ damage and the blood cells in the body to basically burst” said Dr. Dian P. Calello, the medical director of the New Jersey poison
information and education system. “It can definitely be fatal” she added.
Even the makers of Clorox and Lysol pleaded with Americans
not to inject or ingest their products.
The frantic reaction was promoted by president Trump’s
suggestion on Thursday at a white house conference. “Injection inside the human
body with a disinfectant like bleach or isopropyl alcohol could help combat the
virus” he said
“And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in
a minute” he added
Dr. Deborah L Brix, the white house’s coronavirus response
coordinator was sitting to the side in the white house briefing room, blinking
hard and looking in the floor as she hardly spoke. Later Mr. Trump asked her if
she knew about “the heat and the light” as a possible cure.
“Not as a treatment” Dr Brix said, adding “I haven’t seen
heat or light…” before the president cut her off.
Trump’s statements caused an uproar, and the white house
spent much of Friday trying to hold it back, as the food and drug
administration warned that hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, two drugs that the president
has reportedly recommended in treating the coronavirus, can cause dangerous
abnormalities in heart rhythm in coronavirus patients and has resulted in some
deaths
However Trump later on undermined arguments by insisting
that his statements in fact had been an elaborate prank that he had engineered
to trick the reporters.
