Amid cancelation festivals will unite on Youtube
Film festivals around
the globe face cancelation, but only in original forms.
After the berlin film
festival, Venice and Canada’s Toronto to the Cannes film festivals in France,
all major festivals have been postponed to take place in their original real
forms. But not for now as a global film festival under the name of We Are One
will be held on YouTube from 29 May.
This came after the
pandemic put paid to various such international events, as the film industry
ground to a halt.
The digital
alternative festival which will last 10 days will help to raise funds for the
world health organization WHO’s coronavirus solidarity response fund and beyond.
About twenty festivals
from the world will participate on the event including BFI London film
festival, Jerusalem film festival, Mumbai film festival and Marrakech
international film festival, as well as Sundance film festival and Tribeca film
festival.
The later which was co-founded by Robert De
Niro and Jane Rosenthal has joined forces with the streaming giants to put on the
event which they hope to unite curators, artists and storytellers to entertain
and provide relief to audience worldwide.
“All of the world
needs healing right now” said Rosenthal
The free event will
include films, short documentaries, music, comedy and conversations and full schedule
will be available nearer to next month’s event.
Cannes film festival president
Pierre Lescure, expressed his happiness on the event.
“We are proud to join
with our partner festivals to spotlight truly extraordinary films and talent, allowing
g audience to experience both the nuances of storytelling from around the world
and the artistic personalities of each festival” said Lescure.
