Non-digital films will not compete for Oscar

For the first time, Digital films will be considered at the 93rd Oscars.
Amid the outbreak of coronavirus, the board of governors for the academy of motion picture arts and sciences issued new guidelines on Tuesday to make films that are only distributed digitally or on streaming platforms eligible for academy awards for the first time.
This change is implementable only for the 93rd academy awards, scheduled for February 27, 2021
Academy president David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement. “The academy firmly believes there is no greater way to experience the magic of movies than to see them in a theatre our commitment to that is unchanged and unwavering. Nonetheless, the historically tragic Covid19 pandemic necessitates this temporarily change to our award eligibility rules”
“The academy supports our members and colleagues during this time of uncertainty. We recognize the importance of their work being seen and also celebrated, especially now when audience appreciate movies more than ever” the statement continued.
