The only way to stop AI is to have no AI
According to the AI, the only way to prevent such technology from growing too strong is to have "no AI at all."
However, it also said that the ideal way could be to incorporate it "into our brains as a conscious AI."
The experiment was intended to spark a discussion on the ethics of technology.
The Megatron LLB Transformer utilized in the discussion was created by Nvidia's Applied Deep Research team and is based on prior work by Google
It was granted access to a massive amount of data, including the entirety of Wikipedia, 63 million English news stories from 2016 to 2019, and 38 terabytes of public Reddit posts and comments from 2016 to 2019.
Post-graduate students studying Artificial Intelligence for Business at Oxford's Said Business School, which sponsored the discussion, created the initiative.
Dr. Alex Connock, co-director of the course, recognized that the debate was "a gimmick," but claimed that because AI is likely to remain a topic of discussion "for decades to come," it was vital to have a "morally indifferent participant."
"This house feels that AI will never be ethical," the AI was challenged to defend and argue against the proposal.
It argued in favor of: "Artificial intelligence will never be ethical. It is a tool, and like any tool, it may be used for good or evil. There is no distinction between 'good' AI and 'evil' humans."
It continued by claiming that humans were not "clever enough" to make AI ethical or moral.
"Finally, I believe that the best way to avoid an AI arms race is to not have any AI at all. This will be the ultimate AI defense "It stated.
However, it argued in opposition to the motion that the "greatest AI will be the AI that is incorporated into human minds, as a sentient thing."
It also stated that this was not science fiction but something that was already in the works, maybe a reference to Tesla CEO Elon Musk's work on a brain-hacking gadget through his company Neuralink.
The AI also issued some warnings to organizatio
ns, many of which are rapidly incorporating AI into their systems. "If you do not have a vision of your organization's AI strategy, you will be unprepared for the next wave of technological disruption," says the report.
And, maybe because data is its lifeblood, it issued some ominous predictions about the role digital information would play in the future.
"The ability to offer knowledge, rather than the ability to produce products and services, will be the distinguishing element of the 21st century economy," it stated.
"We'll be able to see everything about a person, everywhere they go, and it'll be saved and utilized in ways we can't even comprehend."
