Windsor Castle: investigations over a potential Queen 'assassination'

Police are looking into a video that appears to be related to a guy who was discovered with a crossbow at Windsor Castle on Christmas Day.

The video purports to show a masked individual wearing a sweatshirt and brandishing a crossbow.

They are pictured addressing the camera and stating their intention to "assassinate the Queen" as part of a "revenge" operation.

Following the arrest of a 19-year-old male from Southampton, Scotland Yard announced investigators were assessing the contents of the video.

The identity of the individual in the video was not revealed by the police spokesman.

Buckingham Palace, for its part, has declined to comment.

After being discovered on the castle grounds, a 19-year-old suspect was sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

He was apprehended on Christmas Day at 08:30 GMT and was first detained on suspicion of breach or trespass of a protected place and possession of an offensive weapon.

The Queen was in residence at Windsor Castle for Christmas, and the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, as well as the Earl and Countess of Wessex, were scheduled to join her for lunch.
