Sir Sidney Poitier died at the age of 94.
The death of the Hollywood star has been confirmed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Fred Mitchell.
His cause of death is unknown at this time.
In 1964, Poitier became the first black actor to receive an Academy Award for Best Actor.
He had two more Academy Award nominations, eleven Golden Globe nominations, two Primetime Emmy Award nominations, six BAFTA nominations, eight Laurel nominations, and one Screen Actors Guild Award nomination during his illustrious acting career.
Poitier was given a BAFTA fellowship in 2016, but was unable to attend due to illness.
On Friday, actor Jeffrey Wright led the honors, tweeting: 'Sidney Poitier. What a legendary performer. One-of-a-kind. What a lovely, courteous, friendly, and really regal man. Sir, rest in peace. 'With best wishes.'
Poitier was awarded the Kennedy Center Honor in 1995 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2009.
In 1974, Queen Elizabeth II made him a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
