Ukrainian refugees number escalates, soon to reach millions

 Hundreds of thousands of refugees have fled Ukraine for neighboring European nations as combat in the capital Kyiv increases on the third day of Russia's full-scale invasion.

According to the UN refugee agency, the fighting has forced about 120,000 Ukrainians to flee their homes and migrate into Poland, Moldova, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia.

"As of right today, about 116,000 people have crossed foreign borders. This might increase; it changes every minute "Shabia Mantoo, a spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, acknowledged as much. "It’s very fluid and changing by the hour."

Some migrants have even gone to Belarus, where Russian forces were stationed before entering Ukraine days earlier, according to Mantoo.

If the combat with Russian military escalates, the United Nations believes that up to 4 million people might evacuate Ukraine.

While Mantoo did not immediately offer figures of refugees per nation, Poland's government claimed Saturday morning that over 100,000 Ukrainians had crossed the Polish-Ukrainian border in the previous 48 hours.

Refugees near Poland's Medyka border crossing told Polish channel TVN24 that a queue of thousands of Ukrainians waiting to enter Poland stretched 9 miles (15 kilometers) into Ukraine.

"I arrived today at 3 a.m. and I am waiting for my wife,"

A refugee told Reuters from the Polish side of the border crossing. "She contacted me from Ukraine, where a 30-kilometer line of cars and people is forming. She stated that she had no idea when she would cross."

Men of fighting age were not permitted to leave Ukraine, according to refugees arriving in the Hungarian border town of Zahony.
