A lady in Israel has been diagnosed with an unusual combination of two illnesses, influenza and coronavirus. The illness has been called "flurona."
According to local accounts, the patient is a young pregnant lady who is now being treated at the Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikva after exhibiting moderate symptoms.
"She was diagnosed with the flu and coronavirus as soon as she came," said professor Arnon Vizhnitser, director of the hospitals' Gynaecology Department, according to local daily Hamodia. "Both tests came back positive, even after we double-checked."
"They're the same illness; they're both viral and cause trouble breathing because they both assault the upper respiratory tract," he noted.
According to the Israeli health ministry, the case is being investigated to see if the combination of the two illnesses might induce a more serious condition.
While she is the first documented example of both illnesses being diagnosed at the same time, physicians suspect there are more cases in the country.
"We're seeing an increasing number of pregnant women with the flu." "It's obviously a difficulty dealing with a lady who comes in with a fever during labor," Mr Vizhnitser added. "This is especially true when you don't know if it's coronavirus or the flu, so you refer to both interchangeably." The majority of the sickness is respiratory."
Meanwhile, to combat the spread of the Omicron variety, Israel began providing the fourth vaccination injection to those with impaired immune systems on Friday, according to The Times of Israel.
