Mexico to use Merck's pills against Govid19

Mexico's health agency has approved the emergency use of Merck's (MRK.N) COVID-19 medication Molnupiravir, according to President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Friday.

The health agency, COFEPRIS, was anticipated to soon also approve Pfizer's (PFE.N) Paxlovid tablet to treat COVID-19, Lopez Obrador stated at a routine press conference. Both drugs were authorized in the United States last month.

Molnupiravir was created in collaboration with Ridgeback Biotherapeutics and was demonstrated in a clinical study of high-risk persons early in the course of the disease to reduce hospitalizations and fatalities by roughly 30%.

Lopez Obrador stated that both drugs will be made available in public hospitals.
